To the Parents: Congratulations on the birth of your child!
To the Child – Welcome into the world! We love you. We will be here to help and guide you throughout your life. We will protect you, provide shelter for you, help in your development as an individual, and along the way… give you lots of hugs and cuddles.
So, what is a Naming Ceremony about?
It’s a celebration of the arrival of your child – shared with family, friends, and loved ones.
It can provide parents with a formal process of appointment of guardians / mentors / godparents for the child. Grandparents and other special people can also be included and recognised. Your ceremony will be designed to suit your particular family and will include any cultural rites, family traditions, prose, and symbolic rituals that are important to you as parents, to formally welcome your child into your family and community.
Parents elect to hold such ceremonies when their child is only a few weeks old up until school age or more. A popular time is the child’s 1st birthday. Sometimes the ceremony may be for one child or several children in the family. Even older children and adults can be Named!
As a professional Celebrant I have many suggestions and ideas to assist you with your celebration. In the planning of your ceremony, I will encourage your input and discuss what components you would like to have included. Together, we will create the type of ceremony you seek.
On the day, the Naming Certificate will be signed & presented, along with certificates for the guardians who take on that special role in your child’s life as well as any other acknowledgements that you might like for special friends, grandparents, etc. to record the event. If your child has brothers and / or sisters, these siblings can be included in the ceremony – so that they too feel a part of the special day – and are given small certificates of their own.
I will ensure that all your guests can hear the special ceremony for your child with the provision of a PA. You will also be provided with a special Keepsake bound Copy of the Ceremony and a unique Time Capsule for your child.
Unlike some religious ceremonies where you may have no input into the words or process; and indeed sometimes it is just a process and not truly a special event – your child’s Naming Day will be a special celebration.
Let me help you to make your family day: the one that creates all those wonderful memories to look back on.
